Acrylic Painting Techniques
Scumbling is done on a dark surface with a hard-bristle brush using the dry-brush painting technique.
Student examples of SCUMBLING
Palette knife painting is where you use a knife to apply your paint instead of a brush.
Surface Manipulation is broken into two videos. The first shows how to add texture using Modeling Paste and how to collage with Gel Medium. The second video shows how to paint on top of the textured and collaged surface.
Hard Edge Painting is where each value or color is it's own shape and there is NO BLENDING between shapes, colors or values. The edges of the painted shapes should have hard/crisp edges.

Artist Research
Select an artist or an art movement from the lists below and dedicate a page to it. Your page should include drawings and information about the artist or art movement. The page should also be considered a work of art where you are considering the entire composition, color, craftsmanship, balance, etc. The page should be filled, colored and have shaded values with colored pencils. There should be examples of artists work(s) and written information about the artwork or artist. Each research page will be graded using the following objectives;
- Content: There are drawn works of art or photocopied works of art to exemplify the art movement or artist. The page includes a heading (name of artist or art movement). The written information about the artist/artwork is accurate and spelling is correct.
- Craftsmanship: Time was spent on each page and is evident in the marks made (clean & smooth with colored pencils)
- Composition: Each research page was treated like a work of art. The images and text are balanced and flow well together on the page.
